Our goal for all students in this class is to learn about natural sciences in a hands on way, be exposed to high quality literature, and to grow socially and emotionally by spending time in nature and learning alongside different age groups. We want to foster a love for learning that makes your job, as their primary educator, a little easier.
What is Acorn Trails?
Acorn Trails is a fully outdoor forest school enrichment class.
The class is divided into two age groups during the lesson. The younger group is for ages 4.5-8 and the older group is for ages 8-11. Students are divided for the main lesson, but together for the read aloud and nature play.
For the younger group, the goal is for them to grow in confidence when away from their parents and to play with other children in a safe, but natural, environment. Students will be exposed to high quality literature, improve their fine motor skills that will improve handwriting in years to come, learn executive function skills, and have hands on experiences learning about natural sciences in relation to their own environment.
For the older group, students will also be exposed to high quality literature, learn about natural sciences, and practice creative writing and public speaking. The goal is for them to grow socially and emotionally, and to become good leaders to the younger students as well as learn problem solving and endurance by playing in nature.
