What is Acorn Trails?

Acorn Trails is a fully outdoor forest school enrichment class.

Our goal for all students in this class is to grow socially and emotionally by spending time in nature and learning alongside different age groups. We want to foster a love for learning that makes your job, as their primary educator, a little easier. This class offers students the opportunity to learn through play with other children in a safe, but natural, environment.

For the younger students, we want them to improve their fine motor skills that will improve handwriting in years to come, to improve their executive function skills, and for them to learn about their environment though hands on learning experiences in nature. For the older kids, we want them to continue to grow socially and emotionally, and to become good leaders to the younger students a s well as learn problem solving and endurance by playing in nature, improve balance and coordination, and learn to collaborate to solve problems.

We believe that self directed learning in nature allows for critical thinking to flourish. There will always be literature that connects with an invitation to play, create, and build. The entire class will have literature discussions and be introduced to the elements of literature. Older students will have the opportunity to write creatively after each lesson, while younger students may want to draw or build.
